In this inland area of Lake Garda, the traditions of the people, their trades and products have developed over the centuries. This is evident when visiting the Magasa area, stopping in the town perched on a steep hill and then proceeding to the sweeping pastures of the Rest plateau, where the typical local cheeses, including Tombea, are produced. Here the fragrance of milk is accompanied by the vivid colors of the flowers. Today, as long ago, the slopes of Mount Tombea and Mount Caplone are home to both beautiful and rare plant species and alpine fauna. Magasa and its rural village of Cima Rest, with the astronomical observatory, ethnographic museum and the ancient thatched-roof barns that have been converted into tourist accommodations, have become a magnet for visitors seeking a quiet and relaxing destination.
