The village of Dro, at the heart of a nature trek

Situated between Lake Garda, Lago di Cavedine and Lago di Toblino, south of the Paganella peak, Dro is one of the oldest communities of the Sarca valley. The traditional stone doorways, the towers, the little arches and the narrow, uneven streets bear witness to the medieval era. Of special architectural interest are the deconsecrated church of Saint Sisinio, Martirio and Alessandro, the Baroque church of Sant’Antonio, the Roman bridge of Ceniga and the Torre Guaita in Pietramurata.
The landscape surrounding Dro is beautiful, with an almost desertic look alternating to spots rich in vegetation. On one side are the Marocche, blocks of rock of gigantic proportions and of glacial origin, recognized as a natural reserve and among the largest of their type in Europe. On the other side are orchards and vineyards that produce the well-known plums of Dro and the typical Vin Santo.
Dro, well-known to climbing and free climbing lovers, is the starting point of some of the most beautiful rock walls. Thanks to its position, it offers the possibility of walks and hikes as well as mountain bike treks.
Recently, Dro has become an important centre for the performing arts. The historic power station in Fies has become a centre for the creation and production of contemporary art performances. Every year it hosts the Festival Drodesera, an experimental laboratory and venue for international events.
